What we teach, and how it's organised
Our material is grouped into seven topic areas, moving from everyday money management toward longer-term concepts. Everything is free to read and none of it requires signing up for a paid service.
hardonbase provides general education only. Nothing on this page is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any financial product. Figures and examples are illustrative, not projections.
Curriculum
Seven topic areas, in a suggested order
01
Budgeting basics
Tracking income and expenses, choosing a budgeting method, and building a monthly plan that survives contact with real life.
02
Saving & emergency funds
How much to set aside, where to keep it, and the difference between saving for safety and saving for a goal.
03
Debt & credit
How interest accrues, reading a credit agreement, and comparing repayment strategies in plain terms.
04
Investing concepts
Compounding, diversification, risk and time horizon — the vocabulary behind most investment conversations.
05
Housing & large purchases
How mortgages and instalment plans are structured, and questions worth asking before a large commitment.
06
Insurance basics
What common insurance types actually cover, and how to read a policy summary without the jargon.
07
Retirement & long-term planning
Pension systems, long-term saving vehicles, and how small, early decisions compound over decades.
How guides are written
Every guide follows the same format
Each guide opens with a plain-language summary, walks through the underlying mechanism with a worked example, and closes with common questions readers ask. We link to primary sources where relevant, such as official regulatory or government publications.
Guides are reviewed on a rolling basis; the date at the bottom of each guide reflects the most recent review, not necessarily a content change.
